My favorite St. Paddys Day tradition is cooking up a pot of corned beef and cabbage. When I was a kid, this was the only way my mother could trick me into eating cabbage. Through the years, I have grown to love cabbage along with many of the other cole crops.
Why? Because the 12,000 tonnes or so of potatoes eaten have to be protected against the devastating potato blight, likewise Brussels sprouts from ring spot and white blister, carrots from cavity spot. Even the stuffing is under threat with blight of chestnut trees.
These will be screened for imidacloprid resistance (as yet unseen) and the known resistance mechanisms (esterase, MACE and kdr). Rothamsted would therefore be very pleased to receive M. persicae samples and relay back any results when they become available.
