More reviled than broccoli and as intimidating as artichokes, Brussels sprouts are a favorite of unabashed Belgiophile Howard Yoon. He offers a spririted defense of the vegetables that he says can delight the senses with their nutty, woodsy flavor.
Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and kale make up a group of cool season vegetables known as cole crops. The word cole means stem and has nothing to do with the fact that these vegetables are tolerant to cold. Cole crops are hardy and grow best in the spring and fall.
