It finally occurred to me to ask my wife about this issue since we have had the two trouble-makers (obviously, I am their dad!). My wife also is especially well qualified since the relative she was closest to and basically raised her, her grandmother, was a native herbalist.
In bloom March 1 - April 7. This large leaf perennial herb is by far the earliest flowering plant on campus. It flowers so early that most observers miss the blossems. The leaves appear after flowering and resemble cabbage leaves. Early summer leafy plants are 6-30 inches tall.
The lower leaves of cabbage, Brassica oleracea (Family Brassicaceae), often have a bluish cast to them because of the presence of epicuticular wax. If rubbed off, the leaf regains it green color. Surface wax is responsible for most examples of glaucous leaves.
Like AKB suggested adding pear or some other sweet juice (apple, orange) to mix in with the carrot and other vegies is critical to making it drinkable.
