Mix the vinegar, lemon juice, peanut butter, mayonnaise, sesame oil, and soy sauce in a bowl. Blend well and season with salt, pepper, and a dash of hot pepper sauce if you like it fiery. Pour this mixture over the cabbage and grated carrot in a large bowl. Toss energetically.
Pour off drippings. Add onions, bay leaf and caraway seed. Combine water and vinegar and add to meat. Cover tightly and cook slowly 2 to 2 1/2 hours or until tender. Remove meat to warm platter. Place cabbage in cooking liquid and cook, covered 10 to 15 minutes or until tender.
The cabbage maggot may seriously injure cabbage, cauliflower, turnip, radish, and related crucifer crops. Early planted crucifers, or seedbeds of late ones, are more likely to be attacked.
