The use of biocatalysis and biotransformations are important tools in green chemistry. The enantioselective reduction of a ketone by crude plant parts, using carrot (Daucus carota) as the reducing agent is presented.
Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) native to the Americas Plant beans 2 inches or more apart in FULL sun. Cover with an inch of soil. Germination (when the seed comes through the soil) should take place in 4-7 days. Wait about 50 days and you should have some beans to harvest.
FUNCTION: The primary product of this enzyme is 4,2',4',6'-tetrahydroxychalcone (also termed naringenin-chalcone or chalcone) which can under specific conditions spontaneously isomerize into naringenin.
