Broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower are all members of the cabbage family. They are also referred to as cole crops. Vegetables in the cabbage family require cool weather for top production. For example, cauliflower will not head properly in hot weather.

Cauliflower, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage are all botanical varieties of the genus and species Brassica oleracea. Because they are closely related, cultural practices for the crops are quite similar. However there are important differences both between and within the botanical varieties.
Combine all the ingredients in a heavy, wide saute pan and set over medium-high heat. Bring to the boil. Cover, turn the heat to low and cook for 10 minutes, stirring now and then and replacing the cover each time. Remove the cover and turn the heat to medium-high.
