Hot red chili peppers, which belong to the plant genus Capsicum, are among the most heavily and frequently consumed spices throughout the world. Their principal pungent ingredient is the phenolic substance capsaicin (8-methyl-N-vanillyl-6-nonenamide).

ALFALFA - Alfalfa contains eight essential digestive enzymes and eight essential amino acids of protein. It has been used for a mild blood thinner, and a kidney cleanser. Contains natural fluorides, preventing tooth decay and helps rebuild decaying teeth.
Stir in rice, stock and turmeric and bring to the boil. Lower heat to simmer and cook, covered, 10 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally. Add peas and sultanas and cook, covered, a further 5 minutes. Remove from heat, stir and stand covered 5 minutes.
Severe water stress reduced the number of flowers produced by Capsicum annuum var. annuum L. Longum plants, but the timing of flower production was less affected. The use of different plant establishment techniques modified flower production.

ARS scientists have identified and isolated a fungicidal substance, called CAY-1, from dry, ground Capsicum plants that stops several species of Aspergillus flavus (A. flavus), a toxic plant fungus. CAY-1 kills approximately 95 percent of A. flavus in laboratory tests.
