Ground Cayenne is collected from the ripe fruits of Capsicum annuum and Capsicum fructescens varieties. This includes bell peppers, pimentos, paprikas, tabasco peppers, Mexican chili peppers, and others.
The six cans that could not be differentiated were various models of the 'First Defense' brand. Multiple cans of First Defense MK-3 (red can, 5.5% OC), covering two separate batches were analysed. The intra- and inter-batch variation for this model of spray was found to be insignificant.

Hot Pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) or siling labuyo, is a perennial plant with small, tapering fruits, often 2-3, at a node. The fruits of most varieties are red, some are yellow, purple or black. The fruist are very pungent. The flowers are greenish white or yellowish white.
