Capsicum spp (wild chilies), produce ripe fruits that repel seed predators in favor of animals that disperse seed. This is attributed to secondary metabolites (capsaicin) that deter consumption by mammals, such as rodents, that typically destroy seeds while consuming fruits.
No other insects were observed to visit the Żowers. Some species of bee occurred in more than one garden. Individual bees gathered a full pollen load from 18 to 47 Żowers and visited one to eight plants on a single foraging trip.

Cadets are trained in the use of a less then lethal chemical agent, Oleoresin Capsicum(OC) spray, through a variety of hands-on experiences. It is important for the cadets to experience the effects of OC spray before using them in the field.
