Queen Anne's Lace is the wild progenitor of our carrot. Although native to the Old World, these white lacy umbels are a familiar sight in the United States and Canada This plant is a biennial which grows, in its second year, from a taproot (the carrot) to a height of two to four feet.

Origin of the name (etimology) : Well known by our forefathers who used to give it heating properties : "daucus" comes from daukos, name given by the Greeks to some members of the the Umbelliferae family and it seems to derive from "daîo" : I overheat .

Queen Anne's lace is a member of the Apiaceae or Carrot family and is also referred to as Wild Carrot. It is a biennial plant with a stout taproot. Originally a native of Eurasia, it is now considered to be a weed throughout most of North America. The cultivated carrot is a race of this species.
